Thean: Doesn't Simmons do investment banking and consulting for these drillers, or do they work for the producers? It's unusual for an investment banker to trash its clients. Maybe I should salute their integrity. LT: I was talking about trailing earnings. I just assume unless someone says forward earnings or 1998 earnings or something like that, the they are talking about trailing earnings. When CNBC says that the PE for the S&P is 24 or 26 or whatever it is, aren't they talking about trailing earnings?
