Anyone hear from HAL? They abandoned us in our time of need.

Thread: The big oil patch winners today were WEL, up 18.9%, and CLTDF, up 11.9%. They are also the big winners for the week running Thursday through Thursday: WEL (Boots & Coots), up 54.5% (!!!), and CLTDF(Computalog Ltd.) up 19%.

The question is - why?

These two companies have nothing in common except 1) their small size (both about 145 million cap., and 2) no analysts follow them.

WEL is an internet stock disguised as an oil patch stock, with the requisite negative earnings, trading at relatively high volume (390,200 today; average - 9,636).

CLTDF is a nice little company, with a low p/e and high growth. Last month a contributor to this thread (Flan)praised the company, while complaining the stock was too illiquid. And indeed, volume today was all of 2,500, while its average volume is only about 900.

Another winner today was GSCI (p/e 132.81), up 8.2%...

What's going on here? Do the buyers of WEL, CLTDF, and GSCI have inside information that we are not privy to?

That's why my head spins when I read all these discussions about why this deep-water driller or that shallow-water driller went down. Something happens, and we all scramble to find a reason after the fact. Maybe there IS no reason (no good reason, that is).

And if there IS a reason, please explain why today's winners (and this week's winners) came out on top. Please!
