Louie,

The link you provided is for Ancor's existing gateway product. What I am looking for is something about the size of a Cisco Router. (I'll even take something two rack units high if it has a lot of ports. <g>) I also want it to be a high-performance solution that is simple to use. Basically, just plug it in and use it, just like we do with Ethernet.

One of the problems that I see in the switch makers is that I don't think they realize how some of us network guys think. (I realize that Ancor is targeting the high-end, and I am clearly at the low-end.) Even so, I can't be alone in thinking that I want to build a Fibre Channel Storage Area Network for future storage needs, but due to limited funds, I still want to use my existing Ethernet based storage and servers. In order to do that, I need a gateway product, and in my case, it needs to support Fast Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet is new enough that there isn't much of it out there yet. On the other hand, there is a TON of Fast Ethernet out there in existing networks.

The hub guys seem to understand this portion of the market better, because their prices are so much lower. (Granted, they don't offer the scalability of a switch.) The closest thing I can find to what I need is Brocade's SilkWorm Express coupled with an Ancor Ethernet to Fibre Channel gateway, with Fast Ethernet (multiple ports, preferably aggregated) support. This combination allows good scalability down the road, and an easy connection to my legacy network. I can upgrade the storage side easily using Fibre Channel devices, and still protect my existing investment in Fast Ethernet. On the server side, I can head toward Gigabit Ethernet (placing the server on the Ethernet side), or toward Fibre Channel (placing the server on the FC side).
