Rohini-560 rocket launches German payloads RH-560-MK-II, a Rohini sounding rocket, was successfully launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) from the Sriharikota range at 7:21 pm on Sunday, carrying a set of instruments from Germany to study the upper atmosphere. An Isro release from Bangalore said the launch was carried out under a commercial arrangement between Isro and DLR, the German space agency. Two more flights were proposed under the agrement in future, the release said. NIIT signs agreement with Malaysia's first virtual university NIIT Ltd, the Rs 430-crore (1 crore = 10 million) global computer training, software and educational multimedia company, has signed an agreement with Malaysia's first 'virtual university' to share technology and design and prepare the course curriculum. NIIT will also help in creation of multimedia content for the courses of the virtual university named Tun Abdul Razak (Unitar), scheduled to commence its courses in September 1998. Rubber production falls short of target Internet conference to begin in New Delhi from June 5 MORE than 150 internet service providers (ISPs) would take part at a four-day international conference beginning here from June 5. 'Info-98', being organised by IT-Events India, would focus on allaying fears among ISPs that only big companies can provide internet services. The participants would include domestic as well as foreign ISPs, including those from Nepal, Bangladesh and the United States. IT-Events India claimed that with the expected privatisation of the internet services in the country, the future of ISPs is very bright. They said more than 200 prospective ISPs have already applied to the government for opening of ISP booths.
