David, Re; >"Stranger things have happened, of course. But mostly they get reported in the National Inquirer.<"

Would it be considered strange if IBM was thinking of buying Borland cause they are afraid Oracle may buy it first?

Thanks,

If they have a billion dollars of loose change to chuck around, why on earth would they spend it on buying Borland?

IBM is weak in core language technologies, and Borland is the obvious place to get it. Sure, they're touting their own stuff right now, but what alternative do they have? The fact that they have a CORBA product, taken alone, does not invalidate the view that Borland continues to be a bundle of underpriced technology.

I am not suggesting that IBM may be looking; I just think it is an excllent and obvious choice for IBM to be considering....
