Joe,

I think Tom fell in love with 3D games.

No! It is Intel marketing.

the whole FPU issue is almost irrelevant.

Yes, your point is absolutely correct. However, it is Intel marketing.

In real life FPU related programs - AutoCAD, Excel, Lotus - MX does just fine. It either matches or exceeds performance of equivalent P-II.

In a hi-tech x86 company lead by technicians like Cyrix, they did not want to be bothered by explaining why Cyrix processors is still faster than the old-tech Intel processors even with FPU involved programs. Cyrix never have any interest to educate their potential customers by explain why our processors do that faster and do this even faster. They never try to develop a program to prove Cyrix processors are faster as THEY BELIEVED THAT USERS WOULD FIND THE TRUTH BY THEYSELVES.

It's too bad that the lack of marketing, or lack of awarness to what's going on in the real world on part of Cyrix/NSM, has relegated Cyrix CPUs to such huge discounts.

Exactly! Unfortunately, the incompetencies of Cyrix marketing ruin the excellencies of M1/M2 and turn Cyrix from a corporation to a division. Of course, our investment value was smashed.

When Cyrix Cayenne comes out with best FPU/MMX, they might find that no one uses FPU. :)

Fuchi ... who loves Cyrix's innovations
