found this on another thread...evidently rear projection set ($18,000) is selling ...100 so far mostly to commercial concerns... that's 1.8 million... Palo Alto Daily News, this morning, page 1, with product photo. Paraphrasing: "The Audible Difference," 805 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, is the first store in the country to offer HDTV sets for sale to the general public. The 60-inch television is made by Faroudja Labs Inc of Sunnyvale, California. Aspect ratio is 16x9. Tuner sold separately. Article says the set features what I presume is a line-doubler which can present standard VCR video in "near-HDTV quality." Faroudja has already sold about 100 of the sets to film studios and other commercial accounts. The primary customer for the sets now being retailed is someone with a home theater. "Consumers can expect to see the price drop next year as more sets are sold," according to Faroudja's president, Michael Moone. Local stations (San Francisco) are expected to begin HDTV transmissions in October or November. (Even though the quality is there...they got to bring these back out of the stratusphere in price... ) Interesting add on to sales however...
