Virtual Private Network

jawd,

I only know what the MB Trading site says about it. Basically, it is a 'private internet' and thus is not subject to surges in demand and multiple (re)routing.

John

PS The MB site is working this morning at

The Most Comprehensive Connection Solutions

The reliability of your data feed is one of the most important tools that a trader utilizes. MBTrading offers two options for real-time data feeds. Our Internet connection is a reliable solution for users who require a moderate amount of data with conservative trading practices. Additionally, through an agreement with UUNET, the country's largest ISP, MB Trading offers the Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution. This is a high bandwidth connection with speeds from 64 Kbps to 128 Kbps.

Our VPN customers are unaffected by net traffic, multiple hops or slow servers. We offer over 750 dial-up phone numbers around the country for your convenience (additional fee required).

The Fastest Dedicated Connection Technology

Not all connections are created equal. MBT utilizes UUNET, the largest service provider in the world. UUNET hosts our proprietary Virtual Private Network. Most connections are shared networks, or "frame relay clouds", spanning multiple providers.

Our connection is owned and maintained only for UUNET customers. Our data is delivered to your PC through secure dedicated servers.

jawd-

UUNET is a private network, you dial into a phone number to connect. The fee goes to them, I believe, and there may be a contract time that you need to commit to. They have lots of local phone #'s all over the country, but you need to check to see if there is one near you that is toll-free. I don't remember the web address, try searching uunet and see what comes up. MB can help too of course, call them.
