[Donald E. Lawson Promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Lightpath Technologies]

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico --(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22,1998--

Leslie A. Danziger, Founder, Remains Chairwoman

Donald E. Lawson, 47, President and Chief Operating Officer of LightPath Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:LPTHA/LPTHU), has been promoted by the Board of Directors to President and Chief Executive Officer, Leslie A. Danziger, Chairwoman, announced today.

Ms. Danziger, 44, LightPath's inventor of GRADIUM(R) glass, Founder and Chief Executive until the promotion of Mr. Lawson, will remain as Chairwoman. In that full-time role, she will focus on the expansion of LightPath's patented GRADIUM technology into telecommunications and other high-growth, high-margin applications, and on the development of strategic relationships with key customers and the financial community.

LightPath Technologies is the developer, manufacturer and marketer of high-performance GRADIUM glass products for telecommunications, data communications, solar energy for space satellites, lasers and other industrial and consumer optical imaging applications.

"Don's dedication, management style and vision for LightPath and GRADIUM glass have been key to achieving commercialization and market acceptance of our technology in the short period since we left the development stage," Ms. Danziger said.

In announcing Mr. Lawson's increased strategic and management responsibilities, Ms. Danziger cited his success in improving margins and lowering manufacturing costs in anticipation of the Company's introduction of GRADIUM glass-based products for fiberoptics, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and other photonic applications. Ms. Danziger also noted Mr. Lawson's role in growing the Company's customer base, which includes original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that are leaders in their fields.

Mr. Lawson joined LightPath in May 1995 as Executive Vice President, Operations. He was elected Treasurer of the Company in September 1995, and appointed President in October 1997. Prior to joining LightPath, Mr. Lawson spent five years as Vice President, Operations at Lukens Medical Corp., and before that held management positions at Ethicon Inc., a division of Johnson & Johnson.

"I believe LightPath and its photonics subsidiary, LightChip, Inc., will benefit from the dual leadership, as we focus on short-term, and long-term growth and on continuing to build shareholder value," Ms. Danziger said.
