rudedog. Re: Inventories. Thanx for the report. It sounds from your several posts that CPQ, contrary to the impression is indeed, "Master of its domain.":)

Re: "CPQ has executed well to this strategy and is now the best positioned of the big computer companies." I would like to believe you as I am long CPQ, but could you elaborate on how is CPQ better positioned than IBM or HP in the services area? Also, are service margins that high to make up for lower margins in hardware?

Do you have any feedback on the annual shareholders --- your comments always welcome .
Some thoughts :
Next big hurdle is not shareholder vote or FTC merger okay --these are a given .The next is the big write down coming from the layoffs due to the overlap --- still looking for 750 million to 1 billion . I hope they take this in the second qtr to finish the bad news aspect of the merger .
Some positive news in this area : CPQ has a hiring freeze on -- employment has drop from 33000 to 31000 .
DEC has lost 800 jobs with the networking unit sale ---2900 with the sale of the chip plant to INTEL -- plus 1000 employees with the freeze on hiring --- employment has drop from 53000 to 48000 area .

Still feel they will eliminate another 7500 positions
TOTAL EMPLOMENT IN THIRD QTR should be 71,000---72000 for the new company

BEST WISHES
BILL
