Last, can you tell whether blocks are buying or selling on BAY and AVEI?

AVEI, on retrace up from selloff, mm jerked the stock to a stop by pulling bid/ask to 39 1/6. I was there ...

Last -- re. ADVH, THQI, and the virtues and dangers of protective stops.

Protective stops placed with brokers can be costly. today, the prices of two of my stocks rapidly dipped down to the stops (both well-placed, i think), and quickly rose back up. in one instance, i was able to turn lemons into lemonade.

I moved my sell stop on ADVH up to the opening price, 12 3/4. between 10am and 3:55pm, there were only two trades below 13 (both at 1:42pm). one at 12 7/8 and mine at 12 3/4. (i obtained time and sales info from my broker.) i assume a market maker lowered the price and grabbed (stole!) my shares. (the intraday chart dramatically shows the dip.)

in another scenario today, a stop on THQI took me out at 27 1/2. the outcome was better, because i luckily noticed the temporary dive in stock price and bought back in at 27. it's nearly back to 28 now.

My conclusion: market makers can and will "gun the stops" and take your shares at opportune (for them) times. i'll continue to place stops when i can't sit in front of my screen, but otherwise -- in normal circumstances -- i'll keep the stops in my head.

Last et al., how do you cope with this problem? thanks in advance. i've learned so much from you, Jenna, and others on this thread.
