High-Tech, would try to answer your question.

1. as to the profit picture, I wrote April 40 Puts and also accumulated more SUNw around 38.5 recently. 5% profit within a week is quite decent IMHO.

2. As to your 2003 and 2010 time range it is well out of my ability to perceive or predict any business environment or even more SUNW stock price.

3. The US Mail order speaks for itself. As to valuation look at HWP

and more read this press release

Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) 40 7/8 +1/8: --UPDATE-- Lehman Brothers lowers Q4 EPS for workstation, server and software concern as revenues in Q3 came in below forecast; lowers Q4 EPS from $0.72 to $0.70 and full-year 1998 EPS from $2.30 to $2.27 a share due primarily to Asia and a difficult Q4 comparison; also lowers FY99 from $2.75 to $2.65 a share, but continues to rate issue
"buy".....

Secondly at those lofty valuation I prefer to be mostly in cash with quick entries short or long in various stocks.

As to SUNW and McNeily personally I like the comapny and the guy, and hope JAVA will be the standard software in the future, but this will not change my investment decisions IT IS MY MONEY after all.

I am not a beliver in the so called "long term investing" as I do not have the ability to predict economic enviroment several years in advance.

As to the recent 7 years or for that matter last 17 years it was a great place for investors to invest in the US stock market e.g. INDEX FUNDS. As to selection of stocks they are far and in between.

I do anticipated this mania to end, but on the same token I can be dead wrong. Therfeore I like quick in -out positions.

Feel very comfortable with cash those days. Would like to add that my transaction fees are around 1 cent or less per share.

I hope it helps.

Happy trading

Haim

<<I simply do not understand why you do not view these two events the same as I do.>>
Well, it would be a very boring world if we all thought the same!
BTW, I bought SUNW at about 39, sold some APR 40 covered calls for a buck and change. SUNW closed at 40 9/16 on Friday. Will my shares be called away for sure? If they are, I'm quite satisfied with a 5% return in three weeks, better than your average CD! :-)) Who knows? I might get to buy them back for less than 40 in the next week or two. If not, I'll sell some MAY 42 1/2 calls and generate some more income. Oh, I love America!
Where I work, we are taking delivery of a new E10000 next week, so I know SUN is not going out of business any time soon. Can't wait to go play on that baby.
