All (off topic): Would you believe that my 3400c/240 is missing again? Airborne says
they don't know where it is, but since it's not in NY yet, I won't be getting it today. Can
we draw any conclusions from the frequent disappearance of this computer for one
day during shipping? Is it statistically significant that it disappeared for one day on
the way to Apple repair and now has disappeared again on the way back? Aren't we
glad I bought a G3 to keep me warm.

Did you get a tracking number from Apple for the shipment? All the major carriers (UPS, Airborne, FedEx) have tracking numbers on express services for just such purposes, and you can track the progress of your shipments on their respective web sites.

You should call Apple back, get the tracking number, and go to Airborne's web site and track the package. Their web site is at airborne-express.com

I've even gotten refunds from FedEx for the shipping amount when they didn't deliver by the promised 10:30AM time, so besides knowing where your package is, it has other uses.
