Lisa,

I'm bored. My daughter cooked lunch, but I had to do the dishes. ggggggggggggggg.

If anyone is interested, it appears that we just had a intraday DOUBLE TOP formation. It normally indicates that we should close below the highs, and could be substantially below the intraday highs.

Re running stops>>do you know how that works and if they really do that

Yep--they can do that--running stops--but it does not happen with anything like the frequency that futures traders obsess about.

There have been times when my stop has been a tic off the high or low and they have not taken me out.

The reality is that it seems a bit of a stretch to think that the locals are going to want to go for stops when most futures traders trade a handful of contracts, if that.

Never been a pit trader. Seems likely though.

Particularly during thin times like lunch, just before weekends or holidays, that sort of thing. A lot of people put stops at certain places....even numbers for example. That's what they would be gunning to hit.

In the book, "The Day Trader's Manual", Bill Eng states;

Professional floor traders will often take it upon themselves to initiate price probes by bidding up or or offering down the markets. In the futures pits, this occurs frequently; in the stock exchanges, the role of executing open orders and other types of trades is held by the stock specialists, and the price probes are more deliberate and calculated.

He goes on to discuss certain markets and the issue of liquidity.

So, I would defer to that opinion.
