The increase of shares is more like split is coming. The splitting headache for the shorts that is. No market crash, no relief for the bears.

The stated reasons for the extra 200MM shares are as follows, from the Proxy Statement (14A) filed today by AMZN (the last reason is my favorite): "The purpose of the increase in authorized shares is to provide additional shares of Common Stock that could be issued for corporate purposes without further stockholder approval unless required by applicable law or regulation. The Company currently expects that purposes for additional shares will include: paying stock dividends or subdividing outstanding shares through stock splits [MORE SHARES AT A LOWER PRICE FOR THE LITTLE GUYS], effecting acquisitions of other businesses or properties [WHAT, ARE THEY GOING TO BUY BKS? <VBG>], providing equity incentives to employees, officers or directors [DILUTION], establishing strategic relationships with other companies, and securing additional financing for the operation of the Company through the issuance of additional shares [LOTS OF DILUTION]." Lastly, "the additional shares . . . could also be used by the Company to oppose a hostile takeover attempt." Now, who in their right mind? Gary Korn
