... without actually having any bank stock anymore, just a vague interest in seeing them come back to reality.

Anyone: BNS:TO looks attractive on a P/E basis. If the Govt disallows the mergers of the other 4 Big Banks, their stocks are likely to decline whilst BNS would be spared. If the Govt allows the mergers then BNS would be a likely target of a Foreign takeover.In that event BNS would appreciate considerably.

I would welcome a discussion on the risk/reward situation of BNS:TO
as I feel it offers min risk for a substantial reward.
