Novell Plans To Announce Two Multimillion-Dollar Telecom Deals

PALO ALTO -(Dow Jones)- Novell Inc. is set to unveil two
multimillion-dollar deals with foreign telecommunications companies that
feature the use of its directory-services software to provide Internet
services.
The Provo, Utah, software maker said Wednesday it will announce
Monday a software licensing and consulting arrangement with Maritime
Telegraph and Telephone Co. Maritime Telegraph and Telephone has begun
offering customers a software-on-demand service through which users can
rent software by the hour, week or year.
Customers download the software over digital subscriber-line
connections.
Novell also will announce on Monday a deal with Singapore Telecom
International. Singapore Telecom will offer a variety of network
services, such as remote access for branch offices, hosted groupware,
e-mail and World Wide Web sites, and network management.
The two deals involve the use of Novell software such as its NDS
directory, NetWare, BorderManager and ManageWise. Novell described the
two deals as multimillion-dollar arrangements over two to three years.
