Oh, YEAH ... that's the principal obstacle ... interop.

The IEEE1284 committee has passed the hardware spec for
daisychained/muxed parallel devices and the software spec
for it is still hung. The hardware spec is basically
the stuff we gave to the committee three years ago. They
blew off our software concept at the time and have never
produced an alternative.

Suffice it to say that this area is getting attention!

BTW, the parallel port cablemodem is not intended to be
the ONLY install option available for the cable vendor,
and surely there are situations in which it would be less
desireable than adding a NIC (or if the PC already has a
NIC ...more and more common).

THe parallel port option is just another shot in the
rapid adoption arsenal.

We're looking for a partner to do parallel hot-pluggable
xDSL with ... (or partners).
