Bernie, OFF TOPIC
As in many things, there's probably a zone of reasonable acceptance, tolerance and moderation in which we can all be accommodated, threadsters contributions can be recognized and appreciated, and so on. Is there really a problem about this?
As to who owes what to whom, I find your insistence that no one has any obligation to anyone else except for services rendered in consideration of financial compensation to be a little strange, even in this setting. Ask your spiritual counselors about this.
As to telling people how to post, yes, obviously a little supplication and a little tact are in order. On the other hand, you'd think that feedback from one's intended audience would be both useful to and welcomed by the posters themselves. You'd have to wonder why anyone would want to repeat the same thing in the same way ad nauseum to an unreceptive, disbelieving or uncomprehending audience. I'd be inclined to compare it to certain physical activities that are usually performed alone and in private, or in private company. Doing it on a public thread is almost bound to elicit a little comment, neh?
Also, I don't see why you are trying to paint those who have made what, in my view, are reasonably friendly requests and suggestions as being some kind of jackbooted thugs intent on enforcing the Party line. I don't know, maybe all the stormtroopers are in your private mailbox; which I hope is not the case.
Personally, after loathing this thread for quite some time, I've now actually grown quite fond of it. So I can see its charms and its deficiencies. As you say, warts and all. On the other hand, sometimes when someone tells you that you have bad breath, it's simply time to take a breath mint. Or is that too obvious?
Best regards, John
