I really like Island - down to earth people, the biggest ECN on the Nasdaq in terms of volume.

Actually, Instinet is easily the biggest ECN.

jawd, I think you oversold mb trading. Sure, they'll throw in level two quotes -- if you make 50 trades/month. So if you are blowing $1,000 or more every month on commissions (at $18.95 and up, sometimes way up), then mb trading may be a good alternative. Personally, I don't want to churn thru $12K+ every year in commissions.

Unfortunately, all of the great execution trading software systems seem to be offered by pricey brokers who use it as a lure for lots and lots of high-priced commissions. This includes mb trading, cybercorp, and a legion of others, who use real tick, the executioner, and similar execution packages.

There is a void in the marketplace for a leading edge trade execution system that is paired with a nimble discount broker, with minimal monthly trading requirements. I am hoping that datek fills that niche. They have announced level two vaporware thus far, and I hope it comes to fruition quickly, along with other trading improvements.
