Yes but the mass merchants will now start selling these
in a retail box that until now has not been available.
The only ATAPI drives available to date have been the
OEM un-boxed version available only from the OEM's.

they have always been in 5pks..now they are available in singles, ingram and others have always had a problem splitting them up, which makes sense, most dealers would buy at least 5. This is what i mean about positive action from the new team. They are serious about this and we will see better times...look at fridays close, not as bad as expected. In terms of the stock tripiling in 18 months, of course i see it, did you'll have to ask.
