I believe there is some confusion regarding Clubhouse and "clubhouse format".

The "clubhouse format", as I gathered when it was first mentioned weeks ago, would allow people to pull up many posts in order from the main thread, and they could just page down to read them all. It is still the main thread, just a different and quicker way to read it. This is not yet in existence on SI, but I think if technically efficient and possible, would be a boon to the readers.

A Clubhouse is a separate entity, which does not show up as new posts in anyone's profile, and which can be read as fifty posts per page. The idea behind a Clubhouse is that off-topic posts, and posts that the writer deems irrelevant to almost all readers can be put there, without cluttering up the main thread.

Unfortunately, off-topic and irrelevant posts are still all over busy threads, Clubhouse present or no, and having the Clubhouse actually takes more of readers' time, if readers wants to make sure they haven't missed anything. The main TAVA thread has a clubhouse, and at times, it had more useful information than much of the thread.

I hope no more Clubhouses are widely used, for that reason, as it takes more time, since one cannot be sure that the Clubhouse posts are off-topic and irrelevant to the stock at hand. I encourage all to use private messaging when they feel the need to say "Thanks, great post", and "How's the dog?". Too many "moonshot" calls and "thrusters on" statements also diminish the value of a thread.

I do hope Brad and Jeff find a way to make the "clubhouse format" for all threads a reality, but please, don't put a Clubhouse on every thread. A chicken in every pot--now there's an idea.

>>coffehouse format<< Sorry, Spots. I guess I confused the idea of a separate Off-topic or chat or coffeehouse type thread (such as APM vs. Applied Magnetics) with the "Clubhouse format" such as Graystone's Bre-X Clubhouse example:

I suggest there is a larger issue here in search of a solution. It is not limited to SI. The Internet changes the rules of communication. Writers can either write to please themselves without regard for their readers or they try to write for the readers' interests. That last ideal is compromised by the fact that the Internet audience and their needs are less homogenous. Thus, there is a need for way in which the reader can exert a higher degree of local filtering according to his needs. Perhaps such a simple concept is beyond our grasp at present.
