Spots, all the CPAs, lawyers, and tax preparers the depend on the tax industry for their livelihood is another; all the extra and extraneous government workers those taxes support is another; and etc. ad infinitum and ad nauseam. . CPAs, lawyers, and (??tax preparers ??) will have MORE, possibly MUCH MORE employment opportunity under ANY CHANGES in the Federal tax laws. It is a BIG FAT LIE that the proponents of tax changes spew out to attempt to "discredit" any KNOWLEDGABLE DISCUSSION/DEBATE about their SPOON FEEDING of MIS-information to the public. . "Tax PREPARERS" could be another matter. If by that you mean Jackson Hewitt Associates, H&R Block and your local Barber who does 1040As for $35 in the month of March, I would agree. But who in their right mind listens to the likes of THEM for anything other than preparing the current year's State & Federal personal income tax return? (g) . When someone comes promising you an easy (flat tax) fix, take the information with as much caution as you would a cold-calling boiler-room tipster who wants you to buy his hot stock "now" before you get the opinion of your financial advisor. . The biggest thing to remember... if YOU are saving significant $$$ under their proposal, WHO, SPECIFICALLY is going to be paying more to make up the difference? Ask Mr. Forbes if HIS FAMILY and other wealthy multi-millionaires will be among the group expected to be taking up the slack and paying more $$$ so that YOU will be allowed your tax savings. . I've already asked. Their answers are pure POLITICS. "everybody" saves taxes! And my answer back is to do that you can keep the CURRENT tax code and just give EVERYONE either 1) a $X,XXX Tax CREDIT or 2) lower and fewer tax rates. That's INSTANIOUS tax relief. No upheavals. No big discussions. No big arguments. . The bottom line as I keep hammering at is NOT the METHODS of collection (flat tax, NST, or current IRS), so much as it is the AMOUNT OF SPENDING by Congress. .
