Cardin,

The financial "entanglement" of Rambus and Intel is indeed a complex issue. First of all, Intel has taken an equity stake in RMBS, and has options to add to that stake at a later date in addition to future royalty payments.

On top of that, Intel and Rambus have joint development programs focused on the development of RDRAM and future generations of such. Unless one is privy to the details of how these programs are funded, there is really no sure way to figure out the exact benefits/commitments in dollars values.

As a long-term investor, I could only make decisions based on the quality--its enabiling and potentially dominant nature--of Rambus's technology and its managerial vision/executional ability. The rest of the trajectory course (on how to get from here to there) is anyone's guess.

To invest in emerging technology/company sometimes parallels the pursuit of a moving target: those who are not "aware" or not well suited temperamentally should not be in this kind of game.
