David, if you like going into a brawl with one hand tied behind your back, BMI is ok. I get satellite feeds now and find that the quotes are at least 30 seconds behind the market. The baud rate is 38,4 I believe. For the forseeable future, no faster connection rate unless you get 57,6K through the internet. Market Center Platinum is good for basic real time charts, setting alerts on price and volume and so forth. If you use the global to capture all stock ticks, it slows a fast Pentium with lots of RAM down considerably, almost to the point of being unusable. If you don't use the global for that, if you input a stock that isn't being captured, it may be 5 or more minutes before the quotes come in for it.

I think that you can get a limited BMI version through the internet reasonably cheaply.

FWIW, the S&P 500 news and other news feeds that are nice to have cost about $50 per month extra.

DTN has better speed, but don't know about their software. I tried their trial for 30 days, but ended up sending the system back because there wasn't any software a year ago that didn't freeze up my system repeatedly. I tried several programs in the $500 range.

Maybe the've solved the problem, dunno.

How's that? : )
