Kirk: Thanks for that interesting citation. The old story lingers,
in some quarters, about a certain shirt collar manufacturer who
predicted how rich he would surely become if every Chinaman
were to buy but one of his collars per year. Needless to relate,
the men of China never became affluent enough to afford his shirt
collars, and, following, attachable shirt collars went out of style
before his dreams of wealth were realized. Whether apocryphal
or no, the story illustrates the hazards of predicting the "certain"
course of the globe's economic future. However, if your e-mail
correspondent were to have included Bob Brinker as one of the
select 100, I'd be inclined to adjust my view of the given implica-
tions of his statistical microcosm. :-)
