Safian Investment Research's Presentation to the Boston Security Analysts' Society

APRIL 2 The current business environment is one of "enhancing shareholder value." We believe another definition of enhancing shareholder value is "to make profits as high as possible." Therefore, many tools of the trade used to enhance value result in a deterioration of quality in earnings. To name a few, some of our recent studies have targeted excessive use of employee stock options, off-balance sheet financing, stock buyback programs, and merger activity permitting writeoffs and restated earnings.

K-Tel is an internet company now. There is no need for them to actually go to work.

Just returned from a quick field trip to K-Tel's digs. They're sitting in about 20% of a one-story building in a local industrial park. No one there, one car in their parking area. Of course, this being Saturday, this might not be indicative of much. I will check again on Monday. They also have offices in the middle third of a modest 2-story warehouse maybe a 1/2 mile away. Nothing going on there either.
