As I said in the BFT thread, the meaning of this is that PE's are in effect as high as they have ever been in this country. This is because earnings, if reported by the accounting standards of the 60's, would be lower. given the lower earnings expected for 98 I wouldn't be surprised if such a corrected PE for the S&P were around 30 or more.
