Does German also have similarities to other languages as
far as you know?

Try English! Seriously, English also belongs to the Germanic family of languages, but of course it has absorbed so much vocabulary from the French, Latin, and Greek, that its family likeness with German is not that obvious.

Also in the same family are all the Scandinavian languages (which, in my view, are so close to each other as to be really just dialects of the same language): Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic.

The closest of all is Dutch, which apparently has the virtue of being somewhat simpler grammatically than German.
