I was stranded in South Atlanta after dark once. After calling for a cab from a convenience store I watched in horror as some lady stole my cab. A couple of good ol' boys come out of the Starvin' Marvins, observed what happened to me, and beers in hand offered a ride. As their Plymouth sped off the driver's buddy said a few nasty words about General Sherman, to which I hastily concurred; then he pulled out a .22 calibur cane gun, intimating such to be a necessity when venturing down into South Atlanta after nightfall, before turning the subject back to the conduct of the Yankees in the Civil War. Not trying to mask my Wisconsin accent, I assured him I was just back from seeing the world's largest sculptures of my heroes at Stone Mountain. At this point the driver says, "We'd offer ya a beer you know if we'd a thought of picking up an extra can." They even wished me a nice vacation.

I never did see any starving children in Georgia, not even at Starvin' Marvins. --AG
