I believe this company VLI out of Alberta may be one of the biggest winners of the HDTV revolution. Their 3D technology will do what Color did to Black and White. It can be broadcast without increasing bandwidth and viewed without glasses from any angle!

Check out Genesis Microchip (GNSSF) which has jumped from 12 last Friday to almost 15 today! (I bought Monday at 12 1/4.) Here's their SI StockTalk thread. Look at the header; it has a LONG list of companies in the HDTV related industries.

Earliest HDTV sets are by Matsushita/Panasonic (NYSE: MC) and Zenith (ZE);

I got creamed with ZE (still stubbornly hanging on to 100 shares!),

so I bought MC instead, but there's no thread for MC on SI.

Not that we need yet another thread: revive the HDTV thread, yes!

Any opinions on MC?

I have an interest in Tektronix. HDTV is a small but growing part of their business. They supply some key components that are popular with broadcast stations. They act as a solution provider for stations in US and European locations. They own the technology that the Japanese companies are using to make the 45 inch plasma displays.
