"actually i have no desire to be a soes trader. mkt makers now have soes defense software that makes it easier to deal with them. the soes houses are the ones making the money i'm not so sure about the soes traders. any mkt maker can be a good soes trader. most soes traders wouldn't last a month as a mkt maker. cp"

Please. Market Makers are too gutless to put their own money on the line to become SOES traders. I think it's a lot like attorneys coming out of law school. The top of the class goes to the big firms for big bucks; the scrappers go independent as defense attorney, player agents, etc. and make big bucks. And the dredge become prosecutors...

MM = Prosecutor

SOES defense software may defeat some scalping, but no MM can read my true intentions. I could be buying a stock to hedge an option. I could be taking a bath for a tax offset. I could be buying and holding...I could be trying to piss them off just like they try to piss me off. I could be in a room full of traders who are simply mimicing the opposite of the largest market maker, thereby creating problems for him.

If MM's are following the letter and the spirit of SOES rules, they will get their's and I will get mine. The fact that they want mine just shows you what a bunch of greedy bastards they are...make no doubt about it; MM's who become pigs will get slaughtered -- the market will take care of that for all of us.

Times have changed. Wait until MM's start replacing their current traders with the independents for big free agent bucks and bonuses. Then we'll see who has the better traders on their side...

Just my opinion, but I'm just plain sick of MM bravado...MM's are lame -- that's why they need barriers to a free market.

I'm always a bit skeptical when someone on an anonymous board comes forward with an extravagant claim, such as being a marketmaker. But when I saw this comment:

any mkt maker can be a good soes
trader. most soes traders wouldn't last a month as a mkt maker,

I became quite convinced that you're no marketmaker. The advantage that the marketmakers have over the average daytrader w/lvl 2 is extraordinary. MMs have retail orders, can refuse to honor their posted quotes, and never have to worry about commissions. Daytraders have no retail, must hope the MMs will fill them when they hit them at their posted quote, and break even with commissions when they make a teeny. If they decide to make the market through an ECN, they can never back off when they're hit. Most MMs who tried to play the game as a public daytrader would get killed. And almost ANY person who traded with an MM's advantage would make great money.
