New CD-RW drive for $319

This drive handles CD- Re-Writable discs which sell for about $17 apiece for 650MB, and also handles CD-R 650MB discs, which sell for 0.89› apiece now. You can now backup and archive 65 Gigabytes (!) of data for a mere $90.

I am about to buy the new Roland VS-1680 disc recorder (it is due to be released next month) with its CD-RW drive Standard option. I therefore am seriously reconsidering my planned purchase of the Castlewood Orb.

Orb's 2.1 Gigs for $29 is good, but not nearly as good as using $3.56 cents worth of CD-R's that can archive and backup just as well, plus I'd have an extra couple hundred MB left over.
