Yes. Another time I was shot at and tear-gassed, along with about two thousand other people, at a baseball game. The crowd then demolished the Palacio de Gobierno as the state police holed up in their 'House of Iron', a million and a half US$ in damages, a very new police pickup truck was burning and the gas tank blew up while I was maybe fourty feet away talking to a reporter. The event made the papers, on the back pages, talking about 'Drunken crowd riots' - it wasn't like that. There's lots of stuff like that, but I still recommend Chiapas highly as a place to visit. Even better, to hang out for a while. Seriously.

Well, the offending post is gone now anyway. I got an email from Jill explaining that she had had a complaint, and that it contained an offensive word. I guess you just can't say 'beer' on SI. Ah well

The 'Ur' stuff will be gone too, then. 'Ur' as in 'Ur of the Chaldees' likely just means 'origin' or 'source'.

For what it's worth - just judging by recent posts I find your positions quite acceptable, and in no way promoting hatred. Your critics do not seem to cut you any slack at all, maybe there is a cause on another thread, I don't know. In any case, I would tend to agree with your viewpoint in this post #reply-4117166 . We will have children in school before too many years have passed, and we would not want homosexuality promoted to them, any more than we would want a particular style of religion promoted to them. And I do feel the current wave of PC propaganda on the question does verge at times on promotion.

But also for what it's worth - Imho, it is never acceptable to run to Jill over a post in Coffee Shop. It is always copping out. It is a denial of Free Speech, an admission (however short-term or hastily decided) of personal failure to make a convincing argument. It is wrong.

Just so we're clear ... and I accept your apology ...... cheers .... marcos
