Bernie, OFF TOPIC, Stop, please, you're embarrassing me! A simple touche (wish I knew how to enter the accent characters) would suffice. <<And a suggested remedy is to post less or not at all?>> Well, sort of. What I originally suggested, long ago, was that in terms of achieving the poster's apparent goals: communicating certain information and opinions - less IS MORE. In my opinion, the posters in question might usefully adopt this approach as a practical matter. However, I do not think that this exhausts the possibilities for practical improvement, for instance, the practice on the Canadian oil industry threads of separating news and article postings (Kerm's Korner) from the opinion and discussion thread (Canadian Oil something or other), might be considered for the same reasons. At any rate, in practical terms, if I thought that posting more would increase the poster's effectiveness, I'd suggest that they post more. <<Don't the posters have rights to suggest implicitly or explicitly where the readers' suggestions for behavioral modifications on the part of the posters ought to be safely & securely stored? We are both in agreement that they do.>> Sure, they do it every day. In my opinion, it's very impolite, but that's beside the point. What I think it reflects, besides questionable manners, is the existence of goals other than the apparent ones: posting merely for ego gratification and a desire to prevail over others - in general, self-indulgence. Of these posts, the more of them there are, the more they are a problem for others on the thread. Notably, it is the complaint they make about one another. Here, I think that the suggested remedy of posting less or not at all serves nicely. <<If you had been given some non-monetary form of compensation to defend the posters from the rights of the readers to suggest that the posters were currently not good enough to meet the expectations of the readers, would you have better suggestions other than to post less or not at all?>> Maybe (see Kerm's Korner). Actually, based on my own observation of this and other SI threads, I think Fugazi is right on the mark: this thread would really benefit from the involvement of some of the female posters one finds here on SI. Don't ask me why this is, it just is. I realize that it's kind of trite for a bunch of guys to be sitting around wondering how to attract some wimmins, but there it is. Best regards, John
