Intel is in effect saying to PC mfrs , please buy our low priced underachieving slot 1 cpu so that we can strengthen our monopoly . Once they have done that they can start to price gouge you again.
What they claim is that socket 7 has no future since the motherboard will be out of date in a year or two , therefore if you don't want to be left behind you have to buy slot 1 .
The only problem with that thinking is that the motherboard is much cheaper than the high priced CPUs that Intel sells , so it is relatively cheap to change the motherboard if that ever would be necessary .

PS it is too bad we have to come over to the Intel thread and bug some
of these real Intel investors . Oh well blame it on Elmer , Yousef , Stockman and Paul . They have bugged the AMD thead for too long now it is our turn .
