You have inspired me to give this more thought. I'm off in search of an SI thread dealing with this issue of how we communicate in cyberspace. I already have URLs for such web sites. Digression: I agree whole-heartedly with your observation of how each thread has a personality and how it evolves. I have noticed with some bemusement how a group of individuals with a common interest start out welcoming all comers. As they get to know each other, some members assume a shorthand means to tacit understanding. Then a newcomer joins and becomes prey for the clique. Of course this is a carry over from real life.
