It is good to see

whale conservation as a topic of discussion. The pond would ideally be very large, depending upon the species of whale chosen. Pilot whales have an annoying habit of beaching themselves. Orcus Orca might prove a bit much for the natives to feed. Narwhals, of course, cannot learn French. That narrows down the choices considerably.

I will check for eggs at a live bait shop near my house.
