Chuzzlewit,..Re:<<Our difficulty is that we are dealing with only partial knowledge>>

Hi Paul,

You are right about dealing with partial knowledge but I don't think it's because we didn't do homework, I think it's because the bears haven't read the last 6 months of postings. You are right, plant expansion in Ximien and Ireland and now possibly S. America completely nullifies all these stories about declining PC demand. I don't think, based on Dell's past business acumen, that they would be foolish enough to embark on this magnitude of expansion based on declining world PC sales, do you?

If the bears had done any due diligence before offering opinions, they would have discovered that many of these articles from the resellers have no relevance to Dell's business. Yet for all of their negative comments, Dell just keeps appreciating. Isn't it curious the 'familarity of bear arguments' over the last 6 months or longer?

Our difficulty is that we are dealing with only partial knowledge. We guess what the future will bring based on a piece of information here and a hint there.

This is true, but for long term portfolios, we base our decisions on past performance, company 10Qs, and current available business evidence. Until there is some compelling evidence that the whole PC environment has changed then I think we are safe in our decisions.

I think the bears or anyone shorting this stock based on less than thorough examination of world business prospects and company specific past history are like 'deer in the headlights'.

Best,

Lee

Hi Chuzz,..Re:<<I am reminded of the three blindfolded people asked to describe an elephant.>>

I should have looked up this story before replying; however, the onslaught of bears caused me to reply prematurely. The gist of the story though is probably listed below.

We show in this mini-project (postscript), that much like their ancient blind predecessors, blanket statements made from a few poorly
chosen metrics tend to miss the whole picture and does little to help the poor architect decide what machine to build to satisfy
the needs of these applications.

This is from http.cs.berkeley.edu

I agree that you are correct in that worldwide expansion negates many of the bears arguments regarding PC slowdown. And yes we will always be dealing with uncertainty; however, those of us who dig deeply enough will hopefully have an edge.

OT - TradeStation just crashed! Even with a UPS too! Rats.

Best,

Lee
