PC vs. Mac speed. (Anecdote.)

The service manager at the Mac store I work at told me that he'd gotten a call from a longtime friend and committed PC-head last week.

That friend said his girlfriend had just picked a used 8500/150 and was complaining how slow it was and enlisted his help.

Never having used a Mac before, he tried putting it through its paces. Afterwards, he told my service manager (amazed) "It's much faster than my 233mhz Pentium."

FYI, an 8500/150 is about two generations old with a MacBench processor score of about 250. The new G3s are about 800 to 1000.

The fastest currently shipping G3 beats low end Sun workstations for a couple of thousand less. With a UNIX-based OS due out this year, I think AAPL will have some products that some very adult "kids" will want.
