India was part of Diaspora too ? Interesting... But 18 synagogues and no rabbis ? That seems strange. If the remaining ones also emigrate, will they get to take the original plates with them ? Interesting country you hail from. I have somewhat of a connection too. My first wife was born in India, in Jorhat, Assam. I still have some ceremonial woven tribal cloths received as gifts from some of the people that knew her parents. They lived in hill country several days travel by horseback back then, from Assam.
