Subject: ERICSSON WIRELESS OFFICE SERVICES TO PROVIDE DIGITAL SYSTEM Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 07:41:20 +0000 From: alias@www.ericsson.se Reply-To: pressmailer@www.ericsson.nl To: press-releases@www.ericsson.se THROUGH AT&T WIRELESS SERVICES Content-Length: 4220 ERICSSON WIRELESS OFFICE SERVICES TO PROVIDE DIGITAL SYSTEM THROUGH AT&T WIRELESS SERVICES Ericsson Inc. announced today that it has entered into a joint marketing agreement with AT&T Wireless Services to provide "next-generation" AT&T Wireless Office Service to business customers nationwide. In this agreement Ericsson will provide Wireless Office Service hardware, software and a performance management platform while AT&T Wireless Services will provide wireless air time/service. Ericsson developed its components of the system using the D-AMPS IS-136 (TDMA) Digital AMPS standard. With Ericsson's leading-edge technology, AT&T Wireless Office Service will provide business customers complete mobility using one phone with one number, in-building, on-campus or roaming throughout North America on the AT&T Wireless network. AT&T Wireless Office Service allows companies to integrate the benefits of wireless technology with features of their private telephone system. Ericsson will provide equipment that connects directly to the customer's private telephone system and AT&T's digital network. The Ericsson system utilizes a distributed radio architecture to provide wireless coverage in building. This next-generation system utilizes standard IS-136 handsets and can operate on either 850 MHz or 1900 MHz digital PCS frequencies. "Ericsson is providing equipment that meets AT&T Wireless Services' specifications established for next-generation AT&T Wireless Office Service," said Bo Hedfors, President and CEO, Ericsson Inc. "This agreement combines the strengths of Ericsson's wireless technology with the service, coverage and reliability that AT&T Wireless Services is known for. Together we'll be able to help businesses increase productivity and enable their employees to be more accessible to co-workers and customers." "With today's announcement, Ericsson is giving our valued business customers another excellent choice for the infrastructure in AT&T Wireless Office Service," said Jordan Roderick, Executive Vice President of New Products for AT&T Wireless Services. "Ericsson has delivered a system that will provide customers added features and value while dramatically reducing the cost of installation and ongoing service. Ericsson's global expertise in IS-136 wireless networks, mobile phones and enterprise business systems makes them a tremendous ally." Wireless Office Service subscribers will enjoy the features of their wired private office telephone systems (like four- or five-digit dialing) in a digital mobile phone nationwide. When those subscribers have AT&T Digital PCS, they will also benefit from standard features like caller ID, numeric and alphanumeric paging capabilities, short e-mail messaging, and voice mail with message-waiting indicator. Because the Ericsson system incorporates automatic roaming, there is no need to forward phones to the mobile number. If calls are not answered at the user's office phone, they are automatically routed by the Ericsson system to the user via their mobile phone. AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. is the largest wireless carrier in North America with more than 2.1 million digital customers and more than 8.2 million wireless customers overall. AT&T Wireless Services also provides messaging, wireless data and aviation communications services. AT&T is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T Corp, the world's leader in telecommunications services and technology. Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more that 130 countries. Their combined expertise in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones and infocom systems makes Ericsson the world-leading supplier in telecommunications.
