CTC, a "schmuck" is identical to a "putz", -- a penis, and the diminutive form is shmekel. Yes, I recall that diminutive form in many German words, adding the -ele and often changing the vowel. Thanks for the correction. I looked up the Yiddish film which I have been meaning to order by mail to view. It is "Brussels Transit" and was made in 1980. It was the only Yiddish film to be made since 1961. You can rent in from Home Box Office (1-800-258-3456) or homefilmfestival.com They send it with the prepaid mailer to send it back. Very easy. I hope to order it soon as well. Meanwhile I've got to go dig up Leo Rosten's very funny and informative book you mentioned earlier. But I recall its title as "The Joys of Yiddish". He does indeed mention "Yinglish" but that wasn't the title of my copy. Perhaps yours is a later edition. Jack
