Im very limited in my musical experience, in spite of that fact i played a lot (violin, guitar). Im probably more of a visual guy. After being dumped three times from a group (remember 60s?) and then having mother that ironed my jeans and had me go to cut hair on a regular basis... As you already quoted from Portnoys Complaint "...where do we begin?" In spite of this, well, i started on something here called Slovenian in Chicago and i have the first few bars like C, F7, G7, C, B7, C... this is actually the first Satz, will call it "soul deafness' and Ill dedicate it to Stones and United airlines - a stewardess just winked me on the flyby...
