AEA Announces First-Ever Job Compensation Survey for Internet and Web Jobs - 02:05 p.m Apr 20, 1998 Eastern SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1998--The American Electronics Association (AEA) said today that, according to its recently published survey, salaries for Internet and Web jobs range from $39,500 to $120,100 a year. The compensation results for the 33 new job categories were just published by AEA in the first-ever Internet and Web Jobs Compensation Survey. William T. Archey, AEA President and CEO said the new AEA survey was done to help the high tech industry to fill "a void of compensation information on this new and rapidly growing segment of the technology spectrum. For companies hiring for web and Internet positions, this survey provides benchmarks against which they can develop compensation expectations. "The results show that, as with many sectors of high technology, all of the Web jobs surveyed substantially out paced the private sector wages average of $28,582 (1996)," Archey added. Top Five Web Positions Internet Position Average Salary Internet Strategist $121,200 Electronics Commerce Mgr. $120,100 Internet Strategy Director $114,700 Server Engineer $ 88,700 Web Technologist $ 78,800 The new survey will provide a baseline for future trend evaluation, as there is no valid historical data. Until recently, the "Webmaster" job was the only one assigned to Web and Internet responsibilities. Our survey showed that there are now 33 new positions. The survey was conducted for AEA by William M. Mercer, Inc., and results show that despite the newness of the occupational area, meaningful compensation data does exist for all survey job categories. For nearly all job categories -- from senior managers to individual contributors -- eligibility for stock options was part of the compensation package. AEA surveys have shown that a high percentage of technology firms use stock options to reward and retain their employees. The new survey was developed to provide up-to-date, detailed compensation and bench marking data on this evolving segment of the high tech industry. It covers the full spectrum of Internet and Web jobs and is one of 7 high tech industry compensation surveys published by the American Electronics Association. Nineteen leading technology companies participated in the survey including 3Com Corporation, Cisco Systems, Silicon Graphics, America Online, and Sybase, Inc. The American Electronics Association is the largest and most effective high tech trade group with more the 3,000 member companies. For 55 years, AEA has been the accepted voice of the U.S. high tech community. Kindly note that NO PAY has been established for "Webmasters for a day". In addition, this report SAYS NOTHING about SI posters having to post in Haiku, should such an event occur. o~~~ O
