Dennis, Wow!! Cisco and Cien team up. This could be an awesome combination!! This was what I was alluding to before, but what I had read was not clearly substantiated, and I didn't go back and search where I saw the article - will try to do that soon, if I can fit it into my 'normal life'. The question is what to do now. We have another obvious run up in price. Is it time to accumulate more? Or will we get a better price later in the next week or so. The thing to do (at least to me), is read the news more carefully (hard to do while I'm at work....). And then to figure out if this will generate contracts for CIEN. I think if it's not immediately clear there are more contracts, then the stock is just getting a momentum lift for the moment. But it's average range will be higher - SO, there is still time to wait/analyse and accumulate. (Also, it seems like the entire market is on a tear this very moment - so upward price movement is due to this, and not totally on fundamentals - AND I CERTAINLY AM NOT A TRADER; nothing wrong with it of course :-) ) This is a part from the news bulletin that confuses me: <<As part of its strategy, Cisco also announced today a new high-performance interface for the Cisco 12000 Gigabit Switch Router (GSR) and an intent to work with CIENA Corporation to enable Cisco's high-end switches and routers to be overlaid directly onto CIENA's optical networking solutions without the need for separate time-division multiplexing (TDM) equipment .>> I guess I don't complete understand the technical stuff, but doesn't CIENA build the TDM equipment? So, does CSCO's new technology combine with it, eliminate it or what?? How much is CIENA involved in the new hardware piece - sorry for my lack of technical knowledge on this, but I definitely need to do some more studying up on this. This is a blurb E*trade research info of what CIEN does <<CIENA makes dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems for use with long-distance fiber-optic telecommunications networks. CIENA's MultiWave 1600 DWDM system allows an optical fiber to carry 16 times more data, graphic, and voice information without requiring significant equipment upgrades -- an important development because new technologies such as the Internet, multimedia, and videoconferencing are straining the capacity of long-distance networks. The MultiWave system includes optical transmission terminals, optical amplifiers, and network management software (WaveWatcher). CIENA has agreements to supply systems to Sprint, AT&T, WorldCom, and Teleway Japan Corporation. >> Anyway, I definitely sense QUALITY/VALUE coming from this company. Partnering with CSCO just strongly confirms this!! (IMHO - standard qualifier) Joe Joe
