RE: Heard on Paul Harvey this morning that some Republicans in Congress propose to allow all workers to have 2%of their wages withheld from their paychecks and invested in the market.Wonder what this would do for the market??

More lambs to the slaughter. You'd be shocked at how little the majority of my co-workers know about their 401K holdings. Informed investors are likely to beat them to the door when the market dives. I think, however, this will just set up the fed govt to create some major bailout of burned/impoverished retirees farther down the road. This is like the feds rebuilding the seashore homes of people who shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Average retirement at 50?

reminds me of something that Mark Twian wrote in "Life on the Mississippi." Seems that the mississippi river is getting shorter - as time goes on it changes course and straightens out.

He said that at the current rate of shortening, by year 2000 the whole river it would only be 4 inches long.

When everyone retires at 50, who is going to do the work? Shows how smart congress is.

But it would create a bubble in the market. Which would eventually burst because of overvaluation.

Why do does America need Social Security? If we just throw all of our retirement dollars @ Wall Street, our retirement will be guaranteed. BY WHO??
Probably every 25 year old stockbroker, in America!
