Scumbria,

Wait a minute.. now you want to turn the performance of the MP architecture over to the software people.. no offense, but "yeah right".. that'll never work.. Software people who write tight code are few and far between. Everyone curses MS for code bloat, but have you looked at the mozilla source code at all.. god it's awful..

Software people (98%) are feature crazy.. and speed is a secondary consideration.. few applications brag about speed increases (i.e. rendering pacakges and cad).. the rest of them brag about features.

If you turn MP implementation details over to the software people you'll get worse performance, not better performance.

RE: IA64

IA64 won't change a thing.. the only people that will even think about IA64 differently are compiler vendors.. the rest of us programmers will just grab a Merced (IA64) compiler and use it.. we won't give a rats ass, because there is no way in hell I am writing complex 1500c++ lines of code in ASM..
