Allen,

I did not clarify very well in my previous posts whether my observations about switching RTOS's indicated a lower barrier to entry.

For the record, from my own experiences with RTOS's , tools and my understanding of the market, I truly believe that the barrier to entry is actually quite high and increasing rapidly.

I did attempt to point out that R/D engineering groups that I have been personally involved with harbor no particular bias between RTOS's. RTOS's are chosen for a multitude of reasons including processor and compiler support, tools, etc. I have noticed that WIND has been chosen far more often than not for various good reasons.

But, fact is, most of the time we plug and play with all of them on various prototype devices and feel comfortable examining the pros and cons of each one. From what I remember of my post (I haven't read it recently) I can easily imagine that one would interpret what I posted as evidence that the barrier to entry is therefore lower.

One point I was attempting to impart with my post was a cautionary note to WIND itself. WIND has been known to really tighten the screws to extract more out of each contract under the belief that switching is quite painful. What I was presenting was that atleast from an R/D engineer's technical perspective, switching may not be such an issue. Given tighter margins and a higher cost by the RTOS vendor, the right business decision may very well be to switch.

Always appreciate your valuable input.

Cheers,
Ronald
