ATI's Industry-leading RAGE PRO Chip to Provide Best 2D, 3D, Video Acceleration and Software DVD Replay for HP's New Pavilion Multimedia PC
RAGE PRO chip the worldwide DVD leader for software and playback
TORONTO, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- ATI Technologies Inc. (Toronto: ATY - news) today announced that ATI's RAGE PRO(TM) 2X AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics accelerator chip, which provides superb graphics and DVD playback, has been chosen for Hewlett-Packard Company's [NYSE:HWP - news] new HP Pavilion Multimedia series PC 8275.

HP's new Pavilion Multimedia PC features 300MHz with 48 MB SDRAM of system memory and a XGB hard drive. It has a second generation DVD drive for MPEG2/DVD video playback and graphic intensive video games.

ATI's RAGE PRO(TM) chip, providing the best DVD support of any integrated graphics chip, produces the highest level of realism possible in 3D applications for avid gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. The RAGE PRO chip's hardware-assist function for software DVD replay, called motion compensation, produces crisp, full motion, full screen video MPEG2 playback for the best in home theater and entertainment applications.

ATI's leading-edge AGP 2X implementation, which includes SideBand Addressing (SBA), Pipelining and AGP Texturing, further increases the intensity of 3D images on the screen and results in higher quality DVD with less CPU utilization.

ATI's DVD technology leads the marketplace

RAGE PRO's video acceleration and motion compensation technology produces high-quality DVD playback that can be played through PC software, and with higher resolutions than is possible with a simple DVD video player/TV system. It provides the full frame rates needed for DVD/MPEG2 playback, frame rates that are not possible without motion compensation.

''ATI is delighted that HP joins the ever-growing list of top equipment manufacturers who have chosen the RAGE PRO(TM) 2X AGP graphics accelerator chip,'' said Ed Grondahl, vice president of product marketing at ATI. ''It's further proof that ATI offers today's best DVD on the market, as well as the best 3D graphics/video acceleration and multimedia solutions, and is helping fuel the ever-growing penetration of DVD in the industry, as well as the HP Pavilion Multimedia series.''

ATI's leading AGP solutions

Selected by more system designers than any other AGP controller currently on the market, more than 5 million ATI RAGE PRO controller chips have been shipped since the product's introduction last fall. A principal reason for this success is that ATI is the only graphics vendor to support full AGP 2X implementation. With ATI's AGP 2X solution, the HP Pavilion multimedia PC model 8275 will offer the full benefit of AGP specification, faithfully delivering all the massive textures of AGP content on a PC.
